I have many fears, afraid of spiders and snakes, trust me, I’m justified of hating those frightful creatures. Yet, would I kill them because I’m afraid? No, I just go around or walk away shaking like a leaf. I’m also afraid of heights and closed in spaces, traumatic events from my loving sisters, those bitches! However, the most fascinating fear is the dark, inky night. The lingering, elongated shadows, eerie noises that cause my mind to tingle inside my skull, my heaving short breaths, a deafening roar in my ears. After all the physical responses I feel, I’m still fascinated with the night. Feeling like you’re all alone in the world, the only companion you have is your imagination. As I perch on an open field, looking up into the sky, I see millions of stars and wonder about the universe. How science and faith always seem to clash. What faith is the true religion of mankind? All I know is science is a proven fact, but faith is what we been exposed through culture, society and personal experiences. People need some higher entity to follow, something to prove their life is meant for a higher purpose of existence. Bah, I’m babbling, but I hope you get the jest of what I believe of life.

journey-to-balance: Ways To Open The Heart:1. Practicing loving kindness and compassion for others, and especially the SELF. If you are not loving to your SELF you will not be loving to others.2. Forgiveness of past. Forgive yourself for your perceived wrong doings and the wrong doings of others. Know that everything that has ever occurred has been a learning lesson for EACH soul to grow from. We don’t have to learn from negative experiences but our higher self will allow us to experience a negative lesson in hopes that we will transcend the need to learn in negative ways.3. Choose to move out of duality consciousness. Release the need to be right (if you know you are right, then be in your knowingness….no need to be in duality with anyone or anything unless you are a teacher and you are teaching something.) Choose to release the need to be aggressive or confrontational with anyone. Learn to stand in your power and speak your truth with words of LOVE and walk away from a situation that is imbalanced.4. Use your discernment and set boundaries with relationships and activities that do not enhance your light. Choose things that are life affirming and loving. Anything based on the lower self or fear will close your heart. Gossip, angry circumstances, hurtful repetitive behavioral patterns, judgment, condemnation, elitism, negative thoughts, negative words, negative music, fear filled movies, fear filled video games etc….will all interfere with the opening of your heart.5. FEEL your feelings as they arise and they will flow through you. If you contract your energy field because you don’t want to feel the pain you will create a block. Once again….choose relationships and activities that make you FEEL good. If it doesn’t make you feel good, why are you still doing it? It is your choice to stay or walk away from something that is harmful to your well being.6. Do what brings you joy. Dance, paint, sing, read, take a bath, laugh, play with your kids….do whatever brings your soul (not ego) joy.7. Spend time in nature. Observe the beauty. Connect with the Earth and all the living beings on Earth.8. Practice Gratitude in everything you do. Give thanks for the opportunity to be here on Earth at this time. Give thanks to everything -your body, food, finances, friends, pets, home, family, job etc….Live in a constant state of gratitude.9. Yoga and energy work /exercise in general will also help you open your heart .10. Living in authenticity and Integrity. “Being” who you say you are.11. Releasing fear and worry. If you are in debt, worry and fear will NOT bring more money to you. Trust that everything will work out just fine as long as you are putting energy towards what you want and not what you don’t want.12. Releasing the need to allow other peoples beliefs and opinions about you affect you. Know who you are! A divine being of light with free will to choose for YOUR SELF how you want to create in this world. Do not let other people’s distortions become yours. Stay in alignment with who you are ~ not what other people want you to be.13. Ask for help from the spiritual realms / or your faith. Peace & Blessings, Journey to Balance :)

Although she lived in a colonial era when Mexico was part of the Spanish Empire, she is considered today a Mexican writer, and stands at the beginning of the history of Mexican literature in the Spanish language. Juana Inés de la Cruz de Asbaje y Ramirez was born in San Miguel Nepantla, near Mexico City. She was the illegitimate child of a Spanish Captain, Pedro Manuel de Asbaje, and a Criollo woman, Isabel Ramirez. Her father, according to all accounts, was absent from her life. She was baptized December 2 and described on the Baptismal rolls as “a daughter of the Church.” The future poet was raised in Amecameca, where her maternal grandfather owned a hacienda called Panoaya. Juana was a devoutly religious child who hid in the hacienda chapel to read her grandfather’s books from the adjoining library, something forbidden to girls. She learned how to read and write at the age of three. By age five, she could do accounts, and at age eight she composed a poem on the Eucharist. By adolescence, she had mastered Greek logic, and at age thirteen she was teaching Latin to young children. She also learned the Aztec language of Nahuatl, and wrote some short poems in that language.  In 1664, at age sixteen, Juana was sent to live in Mexico City. She asked her mother’s permission to disguise herself as a male student so that she could enter the university. Not being allowed to do this, she continued her studies privately. She came under the tutelage of the Vicereine Leonor Carreto, wife of Viceroy Antonio Sebastián de Toledo. The viceroy (whom Appletons’ Cyclopædia of American Biography names as the Marquis de Mancera), wishing to test her learning and intelligence (she being then seventeen years old), invited several theologians, jurists, philosophers, and poets to a meeting, during which she had to answer, unprepared, many questions, and explain several difficult points on various scientific and literary subjects. The manner in which she acquitted herself astonished all present, and greatly increased her reputation. Her literary accomplishments soon made her famous throughout New Spain. In Juana’s time, the convent was often seen as the only refuge in which a female could properly attend to the education of her mind, spirit, body and soul. Nonetheless, she wrote literature centered on freedom. In her poem Redondillas she defends a woman’s right to be respected as a human being. Therein, she also criticizes the sexism of the society of her time, poking fun at and revealing the hypocrisy of men who publicly condemn prostitutes, yet privately pay women to perform on them what they have just said is an abomination to God. Sor Juana asks the sharp question in this age-old matter of the purity/whoredom split found in base male mentality: “Who sins more, she who sins for pay? Or he who pays for sin?” Legacy Arguably the most important book devoted to Sor Juana, written by Octavio Paz and entitled Sor Juana: Or, the Traps of Faith (tr. by Margaret Sayers Peden, 1989), is a work contemplating Sor Juana’s poetry and life in the context of the history of New Spain, particularly focusing on the difficulties women then faced while trying to thrive in academic and artistic fields. Octavio Paz describes how he had been drawn to her work by the enigmas of Sor Juana’s personality and life paths. Why did she become a nun? How could she renounce her lifelong passion for writing and learning? Paz knew that such questions could be answered only in the context of the world in which she lived, and so he begins his study with a portrayal of the cultural, political, and ideological forces of New Spain, wherein the subjugation of women was absolute. In his book, Paz makes a thorough analysis of Sor Juana’s poetry and traces some of her influences to the Spanish writers of the Golden Age and the Hermetic tradition, mainly derived from the works of Athanasius Kircher. Paz analyses Sor Juana’s most ambitious and extensive poem, “First Dream” (Primer Sueño) as largely a representation of the desire of knowledge through a number of hermetic symbols, albeit transformed in her own language and skilled image-making abilities. In conclusion, Paz makes the case that Sor Juana’s oeuvre was the most important body of poetic work produced in the Americas until the arrival of XIXth century figures such as Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman. Just as Paz illuminates Sor Juana’s life by placing it in its historical setting, he situates her work in relation to the traditions that nurtured it. Paz singled out the qualities that distinguish her work and mark her uniqueness as a poet.
